Saturday Selections - 22/02/25

Saturday Preview Although at this time of year we all have at least one eye on the upcoming Cheltenham Festival we do still have some decent weekend racing to look forward to. With cards at Kempton, Newcastle and Chepstow in the UK as well some good racing over in Ireland. In this blog I'll be sharing my selections for the weekend as well as my reasoning behind them and I hope we can pick out a few winners so let's get started! 13.50 - Kempton - Ladbrokes Pendil Novices' Chase Rubaud - 6/4 I'm heading to Kempton for my first selection and I know its boring but I am siding with the favourite here in the shape of Rubaud. We only saw him a couple of weeks ago running in the Kingmaker at Warwick where he came a good 2nd to Arkle contender L'Eau du Sud and stayed on well towards the end and although that might've been exaggerated by the favourite idling out in front, I still think he was a respectable run against a solid grade 1 horse. Trainer Paul Nicholls has won t...

Ante-Post Series #3

Ante-Post Series #3 I think its fair to say my 2 selections so far haven't exactly put me in a great position going into the festival as both my previous picks do look unlikely. Kopek Des Bordes looks set for the Supreme as well as last week selection Lowry's Bar whose been declared at Kempton this weekend so it would seem almost nailed on that he wont be running in the Ultima if he was to run at the weekend. Luckily we did add the NRNB option to Lowry's Bar so at least we're not out of pocket on that one. I have 2 selections for you today and I'm very keen to get at least one on the board by the time the festival kicks off. Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase - Nurburgring - 10/1 Now we have the entries to the handicaps and can make a fair assessment on who turns up to which race it's time to strike and that's exactly what I'm doing here with Joseph O'Brian trained Nurburgring. I was tempted to put him up last week but he did hold entries in ...

Ante-post Series #2

Ante-Post Series #2 Hello and Welcome back to my Ante-post series where I will be continuing to build my team for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival. We took a bit of a blow last week after our only selection so far Kopek Des Bordes looks like he'll be heading to the Supreme Novice Hurdle instead of the 2m4f Turners that I tipped him up for. Remember me mentioning the risks of Ante-post betting last week.. Anyway I'm not going to go on about it too much and I hope you can tell that I'm more than over it by now (NOT!) I have 1 selections to put up this week so with no further rambling or moaning about where Willie Mullins should send his novices', Lets get stuck in. Lowry's Bar - Ultima Handicap Chase - 12/1 NRNB We're heading to the first handicap of the week for my 2nd selection and I'm siding with the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White trained Lowry's Bar.  This Gelding was somewhat of an eyecatcher last time out when finishing a valiant 2nd behind Jingko Blue ...

DRF Preview - Day 1

Image
DRF Preview - Day 1 we have another action packed weekend of racing on our hands as the Dublin Racing Festival gets underway at Leopardstown which is by far one of the best meetings in the calendar. A lot of people see this meeting as a 'stepping stone' to the Cheltenham Festival in March and although it can be a good indicator to what will happen in the spring, it's a cracking festival in it's own right and has always been the best place to see the top Irish superstars in action. We have 7 Races in total to go through on the first day so let get stuck straight in. 1.15 - Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle The first Grade 1 of the festival as well as the first Willie Mullins short priced favourite kicks off the action over 2m6f. In fact, Willie has the first 4 in the betting and will be looking for a strong start to get his weekend underway.  Final Demand is at the top of the market after impressively winning a Maiden Hurdle at Limerick over Christm...
