2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 4

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 4 13.20 - JCB Triumph Hurdle The 4th and final day of the Cheltenham Festival kicks off with the Triumph Hurdle which see's the Willie Mullins pair Proactif & Selma De Vary at the top of the market. Whilst both of them seem to have a big chance I'm just about going to side with the Mare Selma De Vary here. She's only had 1 start for Willie Mullins since arriving at Closutton in November but she ran incredibly well to finish 2nd to Narciso Has that day at the DRF and will most likely improve massively for that run & could be a huge player here. Willie holds all the aces in this race once again with 9 runners in the field so it's obviously a huge positive that stable jockey Paul Townend has chosen to pick her over others such as Macho Man who was 2nd the Proactif on his only start. There are a couple of UK challengers in here with the likes of Minella Study & Maestro Conti but I just think the Irish will be way too stro...

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 3

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 3 13.20 - Mares Novice Hurdle Another big field novice hurdle to open up day 3 of the festival and I'll be hoping favourite backers get off to a good start here as I'm all over Bambino Fever for Willie Mullins. Last years Champion Bumper winner had a surprising poor start to life over hurdles when she was beaten by Oldschool Outlaw at Naas first time out but I was happy to forgive her being that it was her first run of the season with Willie's Mares always coming on for their 2nd run. She then went to Fairyhouse where she hosed up by 12 lengths (albeit going off at 1/12) however she looked much more herself that day and has been kept fresh for this. I think this is one of Willies best novices and wouldn't have looked out of place in this years supreme which leads me to believe that we can get day 3 off to a flyer! I'll give a small ew chance to Carigmoornaspruce for Declan Queally based on the form of her last run where she wa...

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 2

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 2 13.20 - Turners Novice Hurdle We kick off Wednesday's action with yet another deep Novice hurdle with 22 runners going post which is really good to see. No Drama this end heads the market at around 4/1 but I've been quite keen on wanting to take him on and that's exactly what I'll be doing. As impressive as he's been this season his form doesn't add up to much and he still has to defy the trend that Challow Hurdle winners don't have a very good record in the race - Although this was broken last campaign with The New Lion coming out on top. The one I'll be taking him on with is King Rasko Grey for Willie Mullins & again I'll be using that form line with Talk The Talk & Ballyfad as a guide as I think that's the best piece of form from any Novice hurdle this season. Talk the Talk did slightly let down the form from that race today in the supreme but I do think the step up in trip will see him at his...

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview - Day 1

2026 Cheltenham Festival Preview  - Day 1 All the talk is over and the 2026 Cheltenham Festival is finally here! We've 7 races per day to preview where I'll be giving a selection in every race along with a list of my best bets for the day. If you've followed my Ante-Post series this year you'll know we've a few good darts to throw already but in this preview I'll be going through all 28 races in the hope to find you all a few winners, So let's get started! 13.20 - Supreme Novice Hurdle  We kick off the meeting with one of the most open Supremes' in recent years with quite a few runners holding solid claims. Having said that I am quite keen on taking on the favourite in Old Park Star here. Although he's been visually very impressive on his last 3 starts I do have a slight question mark on the depth of his form compared to a few of the Irish raiders and at odds of 9/4 I think his price holds very little value now.  The one I'm going to take him on ...

Cheltenham Ante-Post Series 2025/26 Vol #7

Cheltenham Ante-Post Series 2025/26 Vol #7 Jalon D'Oudairies - Albert Bartlett - 33/1 NRNB (1PT EW) Now before I start to make my case about this lad I must come clean because I can't take all the credit for this selection. A friend of mine actually pointed him out in the market a few weeks ago & the more I looked into it the more I was in total agreement with him.  He was 3rd in a Champion Bumper behind Jasmin De Vaux and Romeo Coolio in 2024 before missing his novice hurdle campaign last season due to injury.  He returned to the track last November where he was beaten in a maiden hurdle by Willie Mullins trained Sortudo over 2 miles before stepping up in trip at Christmas going down half a length to Frankie John.  Although he was beaten in his first 2 starts this campaign you could make the case that he's just bumped into some decent opposition on both occasions over trips that might not be best suited.  He was entered in the Nathaniel Lacy at Leopa...

Cheltenham Ante-Post Series 2025/26 Vol #6

Cheltenham Ante-Post Series 2025/26 Vol #6 Wendigo - Brown Advisory Novice Chase - 20/1 (1pt EW) I've made it quite clear that I'm of the opinion that there could be a superstar in this race but again I'm quite happy to get another in the book at a bigger price to play against the favourite. Other than Final Demand there's a few I think you can put a line through with the likes of Romeo Coolio looking like he's Arkle bound & some question marks over a few being able to stay the trip. As much as Kitzbuhel was impressive over Christmas he struck me as a bit of a flat track bully & I'm not sure his exuberant jumping style would suit Cheltenham & usually suits the more out & out stayer which Wendigo certainly is! For that reason I think you can forgive his run against Kitzbuhel at Kempton where he just found it a bit too sharp & would expect him to reverse that form on a more galloping track, He will LOVE that hill! The Racing Club Syndicate ha...

Cheltenham Favourites - PLAY or LAY

Image
Cheltenham Favourites - PLAY or LAY With the Cheltenham Festival only a matter of weeks away & Ante-post markets hotting up I think it'll be a good idea to rattle through the championship races and just give my opinion on whether I'd play or lay each favourite.  I understand this might be quite a tricky task with still some water to go under the bridge from now until March but I'll give my honest opinion given how the markets are currently shaping up. I'm going to categorise each one into either PLAY , LAY or ON THE FENCE so lets get straight into it! Supreme Novice Hurdle - El Cairos - 9/2  I can't remember a supreme market every being this open in recent years and it's quite refreshing seeing a horse that doesn't belong to Willie Mullins at the top of the market. El Cairos was travelling all over them in his first run over hurdles at Christmas and I think its safe to say he would've won in a walk if it wasn't for that freak fall after the las...
