Aintree Festival Preview - Day #2

Image
Aintree Festival Preview - Day #2 13.45 - Mildmay Novices' Chase The opener on day 2 looks a pretty tricky one to solve. Although the favourite brings the best piece of form into the race I feel he's more suited to an intermediate trip so I wouldn't want to take the short price about him. The one I've landed on is STELLAR STORY . He was 2nd In the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham a few weeks back which could be turn out to be some solid form and I could see him running a big race here. Although I don't fancy him here its clear that HANDSTANDS has got the form in the book to justify favouritism. All be it a narrow victory he was very good at Sandown beating Jango Baie and comes here with a massive chance. Selection: Stellar Story EW Danger: Handstands 14.20 - William Hill Handicap Hurdle I mentioned the first race on day 2 was a tough one to judge but it looks like this one might be even harder but the one I've picked out in this is WADE OUT for Olly Murphy. He...

Aintree Festival Preview - Day #1

Aintree Festival Preview - Day #1 I think the dust has just about settled from the Cheltenham Festival which is great timing as we now look ahead to Aintree for one of the best meetings of the year which of course includes the Randox Grand National on Saturday. In this preview I'll be looking into every race as well as my best bets for the meeting. Again I'll be picking a selection along with the potential dangers in each race so lets keep this introduction short and get straight to it! 13.45 - Manifesto Novices' Chase  Although there are many horses that win at Cheltemham do go on to win here, personally I like to try and stick with the one's that have skipped the festival and have this meeting as their main spring target so with that being said I'm siding with IMPAIRE ET PASSE . He disappointed last time out but his form from last season over hurdles as well as his 2 previous chase starts is pretty solid so I'd be happy to forgive him for that. Paul Townend i...

The BIG Cheltenham Festival Preview: Day 3

The BIG Cheltenham Festival Preview: Day 3 13.20 - Mares Novices' Hurdle The first race on Thursday is quite a competitive one but I'm just about siding with Galileo Dame for Joseph O'Brian. This horse was very eye catching running behind Hello Neighbour in the Juvenile hurdle at the DRF last month which is by far the strongest piece of form in the race. She'll also get weight from the rest of the field here and could easily see her going one better here. One I think is overpriced in this is Diva Luna . She's been very hot and cold of late but her form from the end of last season shows that she's got the talent to mix it with this strong field. Trainer Ben Pauling seemed very confident on her chances and said that she's been showing all the signs at home to say she could be back to her best. A cracking each-way bet. Selection: Galileo Dame Danger/EW: Diva Luna Star Rating: 3/5 14.00 Jack Richards Novice Chase This race is the last that has recently been t...

The BIG Cheltenham Festival Preview: Day 2 13.20 - Turners Novice Hurdle Our first race of day 2 is the Turner's novice Hurdle and I've been quite keen to take on The New Lion in this race so I'm siding the Nathanial Lacy winner Final Demand. He was so impressive at the DRF and although a lot of people think he'd be better suited stepping up in trip, I think he could gallop the rest of the field into the ground here and put some of the speedier types such as The New Lion under pressure early doors. One here I like who I believe is overpriced is  The Yellow Clay . He's unbeaten over hurdles this season and was very impressive in the Lawlor's of Naas back in January on ground that he wouldn't have preferred. He'll also need a strongly run race and hope this doesn't turn into a sprint but either way I cant see him outside of the places. Selection: Final Demand Danger: The Yellow Clay  Star Rating: 4/5 14.00 - Brown Advisory Novices' Chase There...

The BIG Cheltenham Festival Preview: Day 1

The BIG Cheltenham  Festival Preview: Day 1 Introduction It's finally here! Hello and welcome to my 2025 Cheltenham Festival preview. Here I'll be covering all 28 races across all 4 days of the festival as well as a selection for every single race! I understand this is going to be a lot to consume so to make it easy I'm just going to give a brief description of each selection along side the potential danger in the race as well as a rating out of 5 on how keen I am on each one. So with that being said let's get straight to it! 13.20 - Supreme Novices' Hurdle We kick off with the Supreme Novice Hurdle and I know it's not very original but I'm all over the favourite here which is Kopek Des Bordes . Now if you've followed me for a while you'll know how much I've been going on about this lad since his bumper last Easter at Fairyhouse. I actually put him up for the Turner's so this is slightly bitter sweet seeing him run here after seeing my 25/1 s...

Saturday Selections - 22/02/25

Image
Saturday Preview Although at this time of year we all have at least one eye on the upcoming Cheltenham Festival we do still have some decent weekend racing to look forward to. With cards at Kempton, Newcastle and Chepstow in the UK as well some good racing over in Ireland. In this blog I'll be sharing my selections for the weekend as well as my reasoning behind them and I hope we can pick out a few winners so let's get started! 13.50 - Kempton - Ladbrokes Pendil Novices' Chase Rubaud - 6/4 I'm heading to Kempton for my first selection and I know its boring but I am siding with the favourite here in the shape of Rubaud. We only saw him a couple of weeks ago running in the Kingmaker at Warwick where he came a good 2nd to Arkle contender L'Eau du Sud and stayed on well towards the end and although that might've been exaggerated by the favourite idling out in front, I still think he was a respectable run against a solid grade 1 horse. Trainer Paul Nicholls has won t...

Ante-Post Series #3

Image
Ante-Post Series #3 I think its fair to say my 2 selections so far haven't exactly put me in a great position going into the festival as both my previous picks do look unlikely. Kopek Des Bordes looks set for the Supreme as well as last week selection Lowry's Bar whose been declared at Kempton this weekend so it would seem almost nailed on that he wont be running in the Ultima if he was to run at the weekend. Luckily we did add the NRNB option to Lowry's Bar so at least we're not out of pocket on that one. I have 2 selections for you today and I'm very keen to get at least one on the board by the time the festival kicks off. Jack Richards Novices' Handicap Chase - Nurburgring - 10/1 Now we have the entries to the handicaps and can make a fair assessment on who turns up to which race it's time to strike and that's exactly what I'm doing here with Joseph O'Brian trained Nurburgring. I was tempted to put him up last week but he did hold entries in ...
