Ante-post Series #2

 Ante-Post Series #2

Hello and Welcome back to my Ante-post series where I will be continuing to build my team for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
We took a bit of a blow last week after our only selection so far Kopek Des Bordes looks like he'll be heading to the Supreme Novice Hurdle instead of the 2m4f Turners that I tipped him up for. Remember me mentioning the risks of Ante-post betting last week..
Anyway I'm not going to go on about it too much and I hope you can tell that I'm more than over it by now (NOT!)
I have 1 selections to put up this week so with no further rambling or moaning about where Willie Mullins should send his novices', Lets get stuck in.

Lowry's Bar - Ultima Handicap Chase - 12/1 NRNB

We're heading to the first handicap of the week for my 2nd selection and I'm siding with the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White trained Lowry's Bar.
This Gelding was somewhat of an eyecatcher last time out when finishing a valiant 2nd behind Jingko Blue at Windsor despite making a fair few mistakes including quite a costly one at the 3rd last and he more than held his own running in graded company for the first time. He has enjoyed some success already this season in handicaps with wins coming at Exeter and Chepstow at the end of last year and the form from those races is working out quite nicely. He's even had 2 form boosts this weekend as Le Milos and and Lord of Thunder both got themselves in the winners enclosure at Newbury and Warwick respectively.

Lowry's Bar has a chance to boost his own form this weekend running in another grade 2 at Ascot where he will come up against some other potential rivals for the Ultima so this will be a good indication to where he's at in comparison to some of the others.

I wanted to get this selection out before this race in the hope that he runs well and the price gets a little shorter for the festival, after all Ante-post betting is all about getting the value! Now I wouldn't say he'd have to win this race convincingly in order to have a chance in the Ultima however I'd like to see him finishing in the top 2-3 at least as and ideal prep for the big day in March.

As much as the Irish tend to dominate the festival this race has usually favoured the British trained horses, winning the last 10 renewals, so that's already a 'tick' in the trends box for this lad.
It's also a race that is recent years, has tended to be won by the slightly classier horse carrying a heavier weight than most with the last 3 winners winning off a mark of 152 or higher. Now although Lowry's Bar is currently only rated 148, I think he's still relatively unexposed for a 7yr old and although the aim of the game in handicaps is to come into the race off as low a weight as possible, I wouldn't worry too much if his mark were to increase over this weekend.

He also hold an entry in the grade 1 Brown Advisory Novice chase at the festival and although I'm fairly confident that he won't run here, I've attached the Non Runner Money Back to this selection just in case. we don't want to be stung again do we!
